Paper presents the first hand observations on the stomatal
structure in relation to the ageing of leaves of Calotropis procera (Ait) Br.
(Asclepiadaceae). In older leaves thick cuticular wrinkles develop around the
guard cells and the scars of glandular hair bases. Detailed structure of
stomata in young, mature and old leaves and their bearing on the physiology of
plants has been discussed.
